I was sixteen years old when I first found out I was pregnant. My boyfriend and I were so scared. I took two pregnancy tests and they both came out positive. I was so afraid to tell my mom but if I didn’t tell her I wouldn’t have been able to go to the doctors. After the initial shock, my family has been very supportive. Last February I had twin daughters, Serinity and Seriyah. They were born premature because I had preeclampsia, so they had to spend three weeks in the NIC-U. The hardest part was having the baby shower while they were still in the hospital, but when they came home everyone spoiled them. They are 11 months old now and they are doing a lot of baby stuff like crawling and trying to stand up. Being a teen mom is not as hard as I thought it would be. I have different way of approaching each of my daughters because their personalities are so different. I have learned that when they are quiet it means that they may be getting into something they shouldn’t.
I started attending the MELD parenting group at Jefferson high school when I found out that I was pregnant. Before I had my girls I found the talks on labor & delivery very helpful. My family has moved so I now attend the weekly parenting group at East HS and my favorite topic has been discipline as my daughters get closer to the “terrible two’s”. My baby’s father attends a dad’s parenting group at Roosevelt High School. My goals for the future include graduating from high school this spring, working and going to college…and being the best mom I can be for my little girls!
