Rockford MELD and the MELD RUN Committee are delighted that The Twigg Sport Management Group is sending two of its top athletes to run our MELD CLASSIC JULY 4TH RUN this year.
Professional Runners, Andrea Rediger and Sean Smith will compete in this year’s event. Rediger is resident of Minneapolis, a native of Rockford and has personal bests of 17:08 for 5k and 35:52 for 10k. She has been a previous winner of the State Street Mile in Rockford and this year has won the Goldy’s Ten Mile run in Minneapolis and finished 2nd at the Fargo Marathon.
Smith is a resident of Winnebago, IL. and just graduated from Lewis University. He has personal bests of 4:15 for the mile, 14:29 for 5k and 24:51 for 8k. In his first pro race he won the Ridge Run 5k in Chicago.
Race Director, Mike Broski states that “this is exactly what we were hoping for. Our committee has put together a top notch race with amenities not found at other races in the area. We were hoping to draw top notch talent to compete for the prize money. Andrea and Sean will be tough to beat, but I believe that there is a lot of great local talent that will give them a good race.”
The MELD race starts on N. Madison Street (in front of the Trolley Station) near the Ice House. The 8K race starts at 7:00AM followed by the 2 Mile race at 7:05AM. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Rockford MELD, a non-profit agency in the community that provides programs for young parents and their children.
